Spring City

Spring City is a borough of Chester County, it situated along the

Schuylkill River, which divides Chester and Montgomery counties.

Its rich heritage includes Indian tribes who centuries ago first

inhabited the area, as well as Colonial settlers taking advantage

of the region’s abundant natural resources. The first colonial

resident was Pierre Bezellon, who was so skilled in dealing with

the natives.

Today, Spring City boasts thousands of residents with prosperous

businesses, churches and educational institutions. Its location on the Schuylkill River attracted many businesses and industries to the town as well. Spring City was home to the leading flag manufacturer for the United States government for over 40 years. The Valley Forge Flag Co. began in 1932 and held such distinctions as making signal flags for the D-Day invasion and creating flags for the funerals of President John F. Kennedy and many veterans. The Valley Forge Flag Co. building at Bridge and Main Streets is now being renovated to house apartments for low-income elderly people of the area.

The key elements of education, religion and industry transformed the early days of Springville into the current borough of Spring City. Residents hold a strong heritage in a history that tells the story of several generations of Spring City prosperity.
