Macungie

Located just outside of Allentown in Lehigh County, Macungie is

the second oldest borough in Lehigh County founded as

“Millerstown” in 1776 by peter miller. Due to confusion with

another Millerstown located in Perry county Pa, Millerstown was

renamed Macungie in 1875.  Macungie is derived from the lenape

word “maguntsche”which loosely translates to “feeding place for

the bears”, which the town embraces whole heartedly with their

seal depicting a bear drinking by some cattails.

Notable history of Macungie includes the Fries rebellion of 1800,

where residents of the town marched on Bethlehem PA, and the

US marshals over arrests made for tax resistance. Though defeated the leader of the rebellion John Fries name lives on in legend today. Macungie is the headquarters for the Allen Organ Company, a global manufacturer and distributor of organs. The primary manufacturing facility of Mack Trucks is located in neighboring Lower Macungie Township.

Home to one of Mack Trucks Plants and other large and small businesses, Macungie offers small town living with easy access to major cities and airports. Close enough for easy commute, far enough to have space to grow a family without the confines of city living.
